Weather sources and licences
This page explains where the weather information on ALG DZ comes from, the licences that apply and how we prepare it for display.
Weather forecasts
The forecasts are based on data from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), delivered through its Locationforecast service. The weather data are available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). ALG DZ is an independent website; this use does not imply endorsement by MET Norway.
How ALG DZ processes the data
- Each weather page is tied to a checked reference point for its locality and wilaya. Coordinates sent to the forecast provider are rounded to four decimal places. We do not request your device location or replace a locality with a same-named town elsewhere.
- We select the available forecast time closest to the current time. The displayed timestamp is the time the forecast describes, shown in Algeria time (UTC+1), not a weather-station observation or the time you opened the page.
- Temperature, relative humidity and wind speed are rounded for display. Wind speed is converted from metres per second to kilometres per hour. The provider does not supply apparent temperature in this response, so the page says it is not provided rather than inventing a value.
- Our server caches responses and refreshes them according to the provider's cache headers. If an acceptable forecast cannot be obtained, the page displays an error rather than presenting an old forecast as current. Locality errors, connection problems and provider unavailability are handled separately.
Locality coordinates
Reference coordinates come from OpenStreetMap or GeoNames, not from a live search for the town name. The source record and original licence for each locality are retained in the reference catalogue. The coordinate catalogue is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0), with the original GeoNames attribution also retained.
OpenStreetMap
© OpenStreetMap contributors. OpenStreetMap-derived data are used under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0), including its attribution and database share-alike conditions.
GeoNames
GeoNames geographical data are used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).
Reuse and licence terms
Follow the linked licences when reusing the underlying data: credit the relevant sources, retain the required notices and identify your changes. Database share-alike requirements also apply where specified by ODbL. The formatting and processing described above are performed by ALG DZ.
Limitations
Forecasts describe expected conditions near a locality's reference point and may differ from conditions at a particular address. They are not guaranteed observations and are not a substitute for official severe-weather warnings or safety advice. The source data are provided without warranties under the linked licences.
