Three festivals established in Tiaret, Algiers and Ouargla
Three ministerial orders published in Official Journal No. 70 establish cultural festivals, Radio Algérienne reports. An order dated 22 June 2026 provides for an annual national festival of traditional horse riding in Tiaret. Another, dated 1 July 2026, establishes an international festival for the children’s and young people’s book industry in Algiers.
A further order of 1 July 2026 establishes an international festival of children’s and young people’s literature and culture in Ouargla. It also repeals the order of 8 December 2013 that created the International Cultural Festival of Books, Literature and Poetry. 17 October 1961: Mathilde Panot renews call for recognition
Ahead of the 65th anniversary of the 17 October 1961 massacre in Paris, Mathilde Panot, leader of the La France insoumise parliamentary group, renewed her call for it to be recognised as a “state crime”. Radio Algérienne reports that she announced LFI’s participation in commemorations scheduled for Saturday 17 October.
The report also cites an appeal published on 7 October for gatherings in Paris and Thiais, signed by organisations including the French Human Rights League. Its signatories ask candidates in France’s 2027 presidential election to state their position on recognition. This remains a demand, rather than a new decision by the French authorities.
