In central Laghouat, the Moudjahid Museum preserves the memory of resistance movements and the War of Liberation in a building that served as a prison during the colonial period. The history of the site gives particular weight to the documents and images: the place of detention itself becomes a means of passing on that history.
Laghouat Municipal Museum occupies a former church near Rehbet-Ezzitoun market and the public garden. The building and the collections assembled by local contributors provide an introduction to the town’s history, the ksour and the region’s archaeological landscapes.
