Understanding the Algerian Sahara

The Sahara is the world’s largest hot desert. In Algeria it includes sand seas, rocky plateaus, mountain massifs, oases and very long travel distances.

Summer heat can be extreme, winds can raise sand, and conditions change quickly between day and night. Desert travel needs planning rather than improvisation.
