Algeria, 4 October: pay commitments, rail plans and gas safety

Tebboune renews his commitment to pay rises from 2027

In his interview broadcast on the evening of 3 October, Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed that the announced pay increases should begin to be paid in 2027 and be included in that year’s budget. According to Radio Algérienne’s account, he said they would be implemented in one instalment if conditions allowed, or in two otherwise.

The president also identified protecting purchasing power and tackling illicit speculation as priorities.

Preparations reviewed for the railway to Tamanrasset

A meeting at the Public Works Ministry on 1 October examined preparations for construction sites on the Algiers–Tamanrasset railway, TSA reports, citing the ministry. Chaired by Abdelkader Djellaoui and attended by representatives of Algerian and Chinese companies, it reviewed the resources mobilised and the arrangements needed to start work.

The sections concerned include Laghouat–Ghardaïa–El Ménéa and Tamanrasset–Moulay Lahcen. Entry into service at the end of 2028 remains the target cited at the cabinet meeting of 6 September.

Sonelgaz joins a gas-safety and inspection campaign

The Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies has launched a campaign through Sonelgaz’s services across the wilayas to prevent gas-related risks, particularly carbon monoxide poisoning. According to the statement relayed by Radio Algérienne, the field programme includes sweeping and cleaning flues, servicing water heaters and heating appliances, and checking pipes and installations.

Carbon monoxide detectors are also to be checked, with batteries replaced where needed. Ventilation and regular maintenance are central prevention messages.

El Alamein summit: a call to turn African integration into results

At the summit of the founding states of NEPAD, the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, held in El Alamein, Egypt, on 3 October, Azouz Nasri read a speech by Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The president of the Council of the Nation was representing the head of state, Radio Algérienne reports.

The speech calls for commitments to produce measurable benefits for citizens and acknowledges the continuing gap between ambitions and achievements. It cites the Trans-Saharan Highway and fibre-optic backbone as projects supporting continental integration and connectivity.

Twelfth “Hadi Al-Arwah” edition closes at Djamaâ El Djazaïr

The cultural centre at Djamaâ El Djazaïr hosted the closing ceremony of the twelfth “Hadi Al-Arwah” edition on Friday evening, 2 October. The international programme of inchad, or religious singing, is produced by public broadcaster EPTV through its Quran channel, according to the rectorate’s account relayed by Radio Algérienne.

The rector, Cheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hoceini, praised the programme and its competing singers, encouraging them to set an example for young people.

Algeria–Niger friendly moved forward to 18:00 on 6 October

The Algerian Football Federation has brought forward kick-off for the Algeria–Niger friendly to 18:00, rather than 20:30, Radio Algérienne reports. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, 6 October, at the Hocine Aït Ahmed stadium in Tizi-Ouzou.

After a day off, the players resumed training under Brahim Hemdani on Friday, 2 October, focusing on technical and tactical work. Qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is due to resume in November with two matches against Togo.
