The former madrasa
The museum states that funding for the construction project was granted in the late 19th century and that the madrasa was inaugurated in 1905. After independence, the building came under the education authorities before housing a museum and services concerned with antiquities in 1991.
An archaeological focus
The establishment of the national museum in 2012 marks a distinct stage in the madrasa’s history. Its stated field is Islamic archaeology.
