Moudjahid Museum of Ouargla

Inaugurated in January 2014 on the western side of Ouargla, the Moudjahid Museum preserves objects, photographs and archives from the War of Liberation. It is distinct from the Saharan Museum, which explores a different history and holds collections of a different kind.

Collections and testimonies

Press coverage of the museum mentions weapons, images and archival documents. These materials allow visitors to follow the people and events of the struggle for independence. The director also discusses recording testimonies from the region’s liberation war veterans, preserving people’s memories as well as material evidence.

The museum has a conference room, a computer room and a library. These spaces give it a documentary and educational role: the aim is not simply to display memorabilia in a cabinet, but to make these resources useful for learning and research.

A documented digital experiment

A 2017 article describes a three-dimensional virtual presentation accessible through the museum’s computer facilities. One of the initiative’s aims was to broaden access to the collections for older people and those with specific needs. This is a facility documented at that time, not an online service whose current operation has been checked.

Reported partnerships with education, vocational training, youth services and other bodies demonstrate the importance of educational outreach. For a school visit or access to documentary resources, you should explain your project and ask about current arrangements. The existence of a digital tool does not, in itself, establish that all physical spaces have barrier-free access.
