Tassili Museum

Tassili Museum is associated with the Park Office in Djanet, in the El-Mihane area. It is a museum stop in its own right, distinct from the rock paintings and engravings scattered across the landscapes of Tassili n’Ajjer.

A point of reference in Djanet

The cultural heritage map lists ‘Tassili Museum’ within the former boundaries of Illizi province, while the Petit Futé guide places the Office and museum in El-Mihane, beyond the bridge in central Djanet. This address should therefore be listed under Djanet, now a province in its own right, rather than the city of Illizi.

Do not confuse a museum visit with excursions

The park protects an extensive natural and archaeological heritage. Admission to the museum does not mean access to the plateaux, rock art sites or every part of the park. The sources consulted do not provide a sufficiently detailed inventory of the galleries to describe specific objects: it is better to ask the Office about the exhibition’s contents and visiting arrangements, then organise trips into the landscape separately.
