The Bouira Museum of the Algerian Liberation Struggle is a place of remembrance dedicated to the War of Liberation. Its former premises, in the Cité 1 100 housing estate in the town centre, underwent substantial refurbishment before being formally reopened on 1 November 2012.
Remembrance through images
The APS report preserved by Vitaminedz describes a photographic exhibition held at the reopening, dedicated to the martyrs of the Revolution and the leaders of the six historic wilayas. This display linked local figures with the territorial organisation of the struggle for independence.
Distinguishing the museum from the monument
The same day also saw the unveiling of a memorial marking the fiftieth anniversary of independence near Akli Mohand Oulhadj University. This memorial is not within the museum and its location should not be mistaken for the museum’s address. The source documents the history of the refurbishment, but not the collections currently on display: local confirmation is still needed when planning a visit.
